We are at the RISC OS London Show on 24 October

Posted by RISC OS One Wed, 14 Oct 2026 20:00:00 GMT

RISC OS Technologies will be at the RISC OS London Show on Saturday 24 October 2026, 11am to 4pm, at the Harrow District Masonic Centre, Northwick Circle, Kenton, Harrow HA3 0EL. Details are on the show website.

Come and see Bluetooth running on the RISC OS desktop — and we have major RISC OS news to announce on the day.

Bluetooth, on the desktop

The Bluetooth devices window listing a paired mouse and speaker, Low Energy devices and a television, with Scan, Forget, Disconnect and Connect buttons

Bluetooth now has its own plug-in in Configuration, and a Devices window that scans for, pairs and connects devices: mice and speakers alike, with Low Energy devices found alongside the classic ones. Sound is carried by SoundDMA, so everything the machine plays comes out of the Bluetooth speaker or headset rather than one application at a time.

Bring a device along and pair it with RISC OS on the stand.

Major news at the show

The announcement itself is staying under wraps until the day. Some of what will be running on the stand, though:

  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, both working on the desktop.
  • OpenGL, with the work heading towards OpenGL 4.1.
  • A Window Manager, command line, Filer, Task Manager, Display Manager and Font Manager written in C, with assembler converted across.
  • The software you already use carrying on working alongside all of it.

That is as much as we are saying before the 24th. Come and see the rest.

Where the projects stand

In testing, for release around the show. Pinboard 3 takes another big step. The unified Toolbox was finished along the way, and Toolbox-aware programmers are wanted to help test it. The Filer rewritten in C has FilerFind built into it, searching every filing system including the network, and the Font Manager in C is in testing too.

Being worked on now. Bluetooth, above, and OpenGL: VXMesa drawing into ordinary desktop windows, several at once, and WebGL in a browser rendered by the Raspberry Pi's VideoCore IV GPU.

Out now. The Frosted ROMs for the Raspberry Pi, Iyonix, i.MX6 and Titanium, with the theme, HardDisc4 image, browsers and Viewer, are all on the downloads page. LanMan98 v3 gives you SMB 2 and 3 file sharing with modern NAS drives and Windows, Linux and Mac shares.

New on the site. The Shield theme, a light counterpart to Frosted, with !ThmeSetup for changing theme without a reboot. !Connect, our VNC suite for RISC OS, Mac, Windows and Linux, is coming soon. And you can boot RISC OS 3.71 in your browser, right here on this site.

The full picture is on the status page. See you on the 24th.

Boot RISC OS 3.71 in your browser

Posted by RISC OS One Sun, 27 Sep 2026 23:00:00 GMT

There is a RISC OS desktop on this site now. Boot RISC OS starts RISC OS 3.71 — the RiscPC desktop of 1996 — in your browser. Nothing to install and no plug-ins, and the hard disc keeps what you leave on it.

The RISC OS 3.71 desktop, with a Filer window open on the hard disc and the Filer menu showing its Display and sort options

The Wimp and its window furniture, the icon bar, the Filer, the Pinboard and the Task Manager are all there, along with a BBC BASIC V interpreter. The applications are ports of the original sources: !Draw, !Paint, !Edit, !Chars, !Alarm, !Help, !Configure, !SciCalc, !Maestro, !ChangeFSI and the Diversions games among them.

Open the hard disc and start with $.Docs, which explains what this desktop adds to RISC OS 3.71. Use a recent Chrome, Firefox or Safari, and remember the Acorn button order — Menu is the middle button.

RISC OS 3.71 is © Acorn Computers Ltd 1987–1997, and the applications keep their original authors' credits. The full list is on the Boot RISC OS page.

!Connect: a VNC suite for RISC OS, Mac, Windows and Linux

Posted by RISC OS One Sun, 20 Sep 2026 02:00:00 GMT

!Connect is a VNC suite for RISC OS, Mac, Windows and Linux, and it is coming soon.

It is built with VideoX acceleration: no more VNC lag, and smooth viewing on any platform.

The connection window remembers your machines: save a session by name, or pick one that has been found on the network. There is no release date yet — it will be announced here.

Three OpenGL windows at once on the RISC OS desktop

Posted by RISC OS One Sun, 20 Sep 2026 01:00:00 GMT

VXMesa is drawing OpenGL into ordinary RISC OS windows — and into more than one at a time. Here are three of them side by side, each turning its own shaded cube.

Three VXMesa windows on the RISC OS desktop, each rendering a rotating shaded cube

Watch the clip (MP4, 4.1 MB), or see it playing on the Status page, where it sits with the WebGL work — the aquarium sample rendered by the Raspberry Pi's VideoCore IV GPU.

Filmed on 15 September 2026. None of this is in a release yet.
