Next release batch

Expected in the run-up to the RISC OS London Show on 24 October.

Pinboard 3

In testing

Pinboard takes another big step, with many new features.

Unified Toolbox

In testing

Pinboard 3 needed updates to the Toolbox modules, so the unified Toolbox project was completed along the way. Toolbox-aware programmers are wanted to help test.

Filer in C, with FilerFind

In testing

The Filer rewritten in C. FilerFind, built into it, searches for files on every filing system, including the network.

Font Manager in C

In testing

The Font Manager, rewritten in C. The machine used to demonstrate Renaissance was already running on it.

In progress

Being worked on now.

Bluetooth

In progress

Bluetooth on the RISC OS desktop, with its own Configuration plug-in and a Devices window that scans for, pairs and connects devices — mice and speakers alike, and Low Energy devices found alongside classic ones. Sound is carried by SoundDMA, so everything the machine plays comes out of the Bluetooth speaker or headset rather than one application at a time. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are also working in the early 64-bit work shown in public. Not yet part of a release.

Scanning, pairing and connecting: a mouse and a speaker paired, Low Energy devices listed alongside classic ones.
The Bluetooth configuration window, with a speaker address, a pairing PIN and options for system sound, starting with the desktop, reconnecting and loading the USB audio drivers
The configuration window: speaker, pairing PIN, and whether system sound and Bluetooth itself start with the desktop.
The RISC OS Configuration window showing a Bluetooth icon among Alignment, Boot, CPU, Discs, Filer, Fonts and the rest
Bluetooth takes its place in Configuration, next to the rest of the machine's settings.

OpenGL

In progress

OpenGL on RISC OS from two directions: VXMesa drawing into ordinary desktop windows, several at once, and WebGL in a browser rendered by the Raspberry Pi's VideoCore IV GPU.

The webglsamples.org aquarium sample filling a browser window on the RISC OS desktop, with shoals of fish rendered in a sunlit underwater dome
The aquarium sample from webglsamples.org, rendered by the VideoCore IV GPU on RISC OS, 19 September 2026.

This browser cannot play the video. Download it (4.1 MB).

Three VXMesa windows side by side on the desktop, each turning its own shaded cube, 15 September 2026.

Early work

Towards 64-bit, shown in public for the first time.

Phoenix kernel

Early work

A C-based Window Manager, command line, Filer, Task Manager, Display Manager and Font Manager, running on top of today's RISC OS 5 so existing software keeps working.
